Zoom Effect

December 30, 2009

I took some time recently to try a technique I have been reading about called the zoom effect. The technique requires one to rotate the lens, i.e zoom, while the shutter is open. The results can be stunning but great results are difficult to achieve. The difficulty is to to the fact that you must handle the camera while to shutter is open for a prolonged, prolonged in the photography world, amount of time. To reduce shake, which causes wavy lines, I used a tripod. Even with a tripod simply rotating the lens barrel can cause some distortion. My results are not perfect but I think they are a good start.

Here is a link to a useful article and my results.
